VddB: VOLUNTARY INSURANCE FOR PRODUCTION MANAGERS

Production managers in the independent theater scene can take out voluntary insurance as part of a new regulation by the Versorgungsanstalt der deutschen Bühnen. Compulsory membership of the KSK is not required for this.

At its meeting on October 28, 2016, the Administrative Board of the Versorgungsanstalt der deutschen Bühnen (VddB) decided to offer independent stage artists in the independent dance and theater scene the option of voluntary insurance from January 1, 2017. In doing so, it is following the proposal of Alexander Opitz, Managing Director of the Landesverband Freie Tanz- und Theaterschaffende Baden-Württemberg.

Voluntarily insured persons have largely the same rights and obligations as compulsorily insured persons and are therefore entitled to an old-age pension, a pension due to occupational disability or incapacity to work and survivors’ benefits. However, unlike those who make an eligible compulsory contribution due to stage work in a dependent employment relationship, those with voluntary insurance cannot “riestern”.

What is new is that production managers in the independent theater scene can also take out voluntary insurance.

Compulsory membership of the KSK is not required for voluntary insurance with the Versorgungsanstalt der deutschen Bühne.

No contracts or proof of income need to be enclosed with the application for admission to voluntary insurance with the Versorgungsanstalt der deutschen Bühne. In case of doubt, these are requested separately by the Versorgungsanstalt der deutschen Bühne. In the case of compulsory membership of the KSK, it is advisable to forward the relevant proof to the Versorgungsanstalt der deutschen Bühne. If you are a member of a regional association of independent theaters, it is advisable to enclose proof of this membership with the application for insurance.
